§ 4-36. Dog identification
(a) It shall be unlawful to keep or harbor a dog over six (6) months of age anywhere in an unincorporated area of Natchitoches Parish unless a rabies license has been procured for the animal from a licensed veterinarian. Animals must be identified by a rabies tag, or metal plate bearing the owner's correct name and address on its collar. Dogs at large anywhere in the unincorporated areas of the parish without a rabies tag or identification name plate, or tag shall be deemed nuisances and may be impounded. Any person harboring, keeping or allowing an unidentifiable dog to be at large when such dog should be identifiable is guilty of a violation of this section.
(b) Exception: The owner may be considered in compliance upon production of a valid receipt or certificate as verification of current inoculation.
(c) Penalty: Any person violating any provision of this article shall be subject to having his/her dog impounded by the animal control agency with fines and penalties accrued as delineated in section 4.46, Impounded animals; fees.
